Sitsfest
Sitsfest is an academic table party where you eat, drink, sing songs and get to know one another. There are some rules and traditions that are followed in the event.
We don't have that many sitsfest at Liikunta compared to other associations. Once a year we have a big sitsfest called "Liikunnan sitsit" (Liikunta sitsfest) at the end of January. In addition we have organized for example freshmen sitsfests, friend sitsfests and sitsfests together with other associations.
Also different majors and classes can organize their own sitsfest! If you need any help organizing you can turn to Sporticus board and we'll help you!
Rules
1. In sitsit, you must always dress accoring to the theme.
2. You are not allowed to be late for sitsit.
3. You may sit down in the table only when the toastmaster gives you permission to do so.
4. The toastmaster is the ruler. The orders of the toastmasters must be followed. When the toastmasters are talking you are not allowed to eat. When toastmasters ring the bell, everyone quiets down.
5. The amount and duration of the breaks are ruled by the toastmasters. You are allowed to go alone to the toilet during sitsit, if it’s needed. You may leave the table quietly to the toilet whenever, but not at the time of a song.
6. You may present wishes on the songs to the toastmasters. Always ask permission to speak by raising your hand. If given the permission, speak in the following manner: “dear toastmasters, dear fellow students, my name is ___”, and then wish for a song.
7. Good manners are important in sitsit. You have to behave politely and respect others. Everyone else stays silent, when toastmasters give someone the permission to talk.
8. After a song, shout ”SKÅL!” and start toasting. When toasting, raise your glass and toast diagonally left, diagonally right and finally forward. The glasses don’t touch but the eyes meet. The first schnapps is drunk in one go.
9. When someone challenges you, you stand up and answer with a song. For example, if there’s a challenge ”Vi vill ha Bilsat på bordet, vi vill ha Bilsat på bordet”, it means that all the biology of physical activity students must stand and sing a song together.
10. If somebody shouts “OMSTART!”, it means that you must sing the song again from the beginning. If someone shouts ”MELLIS!” or “MELLAN SUP” you take a sip and continue singing after that.
11. In sitsit, you never applaud by clapping your hands together. You can applaud by drumming the table. After great performances you can also shout "Det var det bästa, det bästa vi har hört, HEJ!” (song number 2).
12. Using your mobile phone during sitsit is strictly prohibited. You can use your phone on the breaks.
13. Breaking the rules causes severe punishments.
14. Please clean up after yourself.
Do you want to become a toastmaster?
The chairmen of the sitsfests are toastmasters who act as the leaders of the event. They help keep the event organized and also punish and recognize participants depending on their behavior. Usually there are 2 or more toastmasters depending on the size of the event.
We have created instructions for toastmasters (also in english). We can give this document and further instructions if you are for example planning on having sitsfest of your own.
